before you begin installing options in your computer, read the following information:

    1 read the safety information beginning on page vii, and the guidelines in “handling static-sensitive devices.” this information will help you work safely with your computer and options.

    2 make sure that you have an adequate number of properly grounded electrical outlets for your computer, monitor, and other devices that you will connect to the computer.

    3 back up all important data before you make changes to disk drives.

    4 have a small flat-blade screwdriver available. v when you need to access the inside of the computer to install options, you might find it easier to lay the computer on its side.

    5 blue on a component indicates touch points, where you can grip the component to remove it from or install it in the computer, open or close a latch, and so on.
