when preparing the installation site, ensure that the cabling infrastructure meets the necessary network specifications. for correct cable types and lengths, see appendix b, “switch ports and network cables”.

installation location
before installing the switch, plan its location and orientation relative to other devices and equipment:
1 in the front of the switch, allow at least 7.6 cm (3 inches) of space for the twisted-pair and fiber-optic cabling.
2 in the back of the switch, allow at least 10.2 cm (4 inches) of space for the power cable and cooling. attach the power cable to the switch before you install the switch. then install the switch without power supplies. next, install the power supplies and connect the other end of the power cable to the ac electrical outlet when you want to power on the switch.
3 on the sides of the switch, leave at least 7.6 cm (3 inches) for cooling.
