the first, and only essential, task in basic system configuration is assigning a management ip address to the switch. this is the ip address that you use to access the procurve switch 8100fl on the network. you must enable the management port and you must enable telnet in order to access the switch remotely.

    follow the procedures in this section to set the following system information:

    1 ip address for the management port on the management module

    2 system time and date

    3 system name

    4 system location

    5 contact name (the person to contact regarding this switch)

    6 log in banners

    this section assumes a basic understanding of cli commands, modes, and procedures. for more detailed information, refer to the management and configuration guide on the documentation cd-rom that comes with your switch.

    the running configuration remains in effect only during the current power cycle. if you power off or reboot the switch without saving the running configuration changes to the startup configuration file, the changes are lost.for details on savings your configuration, refer to“saving and using the new configuration”
