the latest software updates for your procurve series 8100fl switch are provided on the procurve networking web site. updating the system software is a four-step process:

    1. download the latest software version from the web.

    2. verify and compare software versions.

    3. install the software image and reboot.

    refer to the following procedures for details.

    download the latest software. to access the latest software for your switch, follow the steps below:

    1. go to the procurve networking web site at http://www.procurve.com.

    2. from the home page, click on software updates.

    3. under latest software, click on switches to go to the page that has the software updates for your switch.

    4. click on the software version number that you require, and then follow the instructions to download the software.

    check software versions. to determine whether you have the latest software installed, you can compare the software version that is available on the web site with the version that is currently installed on your switch.

    to view the currently installed software version:

    1. start a console or telnet session on the switch.

    2. enter the show version command at any level of the cli:

    switch 8100fl]show version

    the show version command allows you to display summary version information for all installed modules (the default), or you can specify parameters to show more detailed information according to the slot where individual modules are installed (see the management and configuration guide for further details).

    install software image and reboot. to install the latest software, follow the steps below.

    the following example uses a tftp download method. while other methods such as scp (secure copy) are also possible, these other methods are not described here (see the management and configuration guide for details).

    1. copy the software image file to a tftp server (or other area) accessible by the management module (mm) ethernet interface.

    2. verify that the mm ethernet interface can reliably access the tftp server.

    3. copy the file to the management module’s compact flash card using the copy command from the privileged exec level of the cli.

    for example, to download a file named cy.02.00.swi from a tftp server with the ip address of 10.28.227.103 to primary flash, enter:

    switch 8100fl#copy tftp://10.28.227.103/cy.02.00.swi flash:

    the new image file will be copied to primary flash.

    4. use the image install command to install the image in a backup software storage bank:

    switch 8100fl#image install [name]

    where name is the path or filename (for example, flash:cy.02.00.swi).

    the new software is loaded in the flash memory bank opposite the bank that is currently active. for instance, if the software is currently running on bank-a, then bank-b will contain the new software.

    5. use the show module management command to see which bank on the primary management module has the new software.

    6. use the boot system command to activate the new software from the correct bank, and reboot your system.
