Restoring the Factory Default Configuration
as part of your troubleshooting process, it may become necessary to return the switch configuration to the factory default settings. this process interrupts the switch operation, clears any passwords, clears the console event log, resets the network counters to zero, performs a complete self test, and reboots the switch into its factory default configuration including deleting an ip address, if one is configured.

this process removes all switch configuration changes that you have made from the factory default settings. this includes, for example, configuration of vlans, spanning tree, trunks, routing, and security. returning the configuration of these features to their factory default settings (usually disabling them) may result in network connectivity issues.

if the switch has a valid configuration, and you are restoring the factory default settings for a reason other than configuration problems, you should save the switch configuration prior to performing the factory default reset. then, after the reset and resolution of the original problem, you can restore the saved configuration to the switch. for both the save and restore processes, you can use the console copy command. see the switch management and configura-tion guide that is on the documentation cd-rom for more information on this command.

you can restore the factory default configuration by using the switch console.

to restore the factory default configuration from the console:

1 enter the following command at the console prompt to back up the startup configuration:

    switch 8100fl#copy startup flash:startup.bak

2 enter the following command to erase the setup configuration: switch 8100fl#erase startup

3 you can also restore the factory default configuration by entering the following commands from the boot prompt:
