Overlay
displays information on the directdraw overlay capabilities of your vga card. dvstorm uses directdraw overlay to display full-motion video on your computer monitor.
click the overlay test button to test your vga adapter for overlay capabilities. a window will appear on the screen and color bars should be displayed there. another window will appear and ask "is the overlay screen displayed properly?"
if the window shows color bars, then click yes. if it is not showing color bars, click no and another overlay method will be tried and the question will come up again.
if the result of the overlay test is "overlay supported" then overlay is supported on your vga adapter.
if the result of the overlay test is "overlay not supported" then try changing display resolution, refresh rate, and color depth. 1024x768 or 1152x864 at 60hz - 75hz, 16-bit color is a good starting point, though with some cards overlay will also work at lower resolutions. also make sure you are using the latest drivers for your graphics card.
if you cannot find a mode where directdraw overlay is supported, you will have to replace your graphics card with a graphics card that supports the required type of directdraw overlay (such as the canopus xplode card) or you will not be able to view video on your computer monitor.
