Special note for Windows NT users with IDE hard drives
windows nt, by default, does not enable dma transfers for ide drives connected to the primary and secondary ide controller. thus, ide performance under windows nt is often much slower than in other windows versions.
to enable dma transfers for ide drives under windows nt, obtain the dmacheck utility from microsoft's support site (http://support.microsoft.com/) and use it to enable dma transfers.
note that if you have a separate ide controller card, its drivers may already enable dma transfers.
