the tools needed for installation.
1. a phillips head screwdriver (star)
2. your pc's user's manual
static electricity can damage electronic components. take care not to touch connectors or cards directly. when installing or working on your pc, first touch a grounded metal surface. this will discharge any static electricity on your body
step 1: opening your pc cover
1. quit any applications you are using and shut down windows.
2. switch off and unplug your pc.
3. remove your pc cover, as shown in your pc manual.
step 2: dvstorm pci card installation
1. find a free pci slot (preferably not the pci slot next to the agp slot) and remove the protective bracket.
2. remove the dvstorm pci card from the anti-static bag.
handle the card by the edges. avoid touching the card's surface
3. if you intend to install stormbay, you will need to position the dv cable on the dvstorm board before inserting it into the slot.
place the dv cable so that it runs through the little notch at the top of the dvstorm board.
4. gently push the card into the slot and screw it into place.
if you plan to install stormbay and you positioned the dv cable in the notch on the card bracket, make sure the "outside" end of the dv cable is through the bracket and hanging free from the back of the computer.
step 3: stormbay installation (optional)
while you can use dvstorm without the stormbay breakout box, we recommend that you install it if possible, to make connecting your equipment easier.
1. locate a free 5-1/4" drive bay and remove the protective cover.
2. slide the stormbay into the drive bay. do not screw it in yet - you may need to slide it in or out to connect the cables.
3. attach one end of the stormbay cable to the connector on the back of the stormbay (the side without the rca and s-video connectors). the connection is keyed so you cannot connect it backwards.
4. connect the other end of the stormbay cable to the larger of the two connectors at the top of the dvstorm. the connector is keyed so you cannot connect it backwards.
5. connect the outside end of the dv cable to the dv connector on the dvstorm. if you did not run the dv cable through the dvstorm bracket, please refer to the previous step for instructions on how to do so.
6. connect the other end of the dv cable to the dv connector on the back of the stormbay (the side without the rca and s-video connectors).
7. secure the stormbay in the drive bay using the supplied screws.
step 4: checking connections
after installing the dvstorm card, check all your connections, replace the computer cover, and plug your system back in.
