    connecting the device control cable

the vtr device control cable kit is compatible with rs-232 serial ports and sony rs-422 controlled vtrs. the vtr device control cable kit (catalog number asu 0911) is illustrated in figure 14.

figure 14: vtr device control cable kit (asu 0911)

the vtr device control cable kit includes the following components:

·rs-232 db 9/db 25 adapter. you will need to use the adapter only if your computer's com port has 9 pins.

    ·rs-232/rs-422 converter (figure 15).

    ·9-pin extension cable.

    figure 15: rs-232/rs-422 converter

the rs-232/rs-422 converter has two ends:

·the female db-25 end connects to the computer's rs-232 port.

·the male db-9 end connects to the 9-pin extension cable.

    connection methods

it is possible to connect the rs-232 db 9/db 25 adapter directly to your computer or to the vtr serial port. it is however recommended to connect the adapter to the computer's com port, because the cable then carries rs422 signals, which are less sensitive to electromagnetic interference.

·if the computer's com port has 25 pins, you can connect the rs-232/rs-422 converter directly to it.

·if the computer's com port has 9 pins, you must use the db 9 to db 25 adapter to bridge between the rs-232/rs-422 converter and the computer's com port.
