if you have previously enabled an internet sharing proxy service on any of your pcs, you must disable it now.
. if you are running netscape navigator, click edit ]] preference ]] advanced ]] proxies ]] direct connection to the internet.
. if you are running internet explorer v5 or better, click start ]] settings ]] control panel ]] internet options ]] connections ]] lan settings. remove the checks from all three boxes. click ok to continue.

4. click the apply button, and then click the continue button.
5. select the dhcp tab. for more information on this feature, refer to the dhcp section in "chapter 6: the cable/dsl vpn router's web-based utility."

dhcp is already enabled on the router by factory default. by leaving the setting on enable, the router is configured to automatically assign an ip address to each pc.
if you already have a dhcp server on your network, select disable for the dhcp server option. if you do so, you must use your existing dhcp server's lan ip address, or you may need to assign the router a new static lan ip address. remember to configure the dhcp server to assign the gateway address using the router's ip address.
in the number of dhcp users field, you may enter the number of pcs you plan on networking to the router. if you add more pcs to your network in the future, don't forget to change this value.
if you have an existing dhcp server on your lan and you don't wish to use the router as your new dhcp server, you must assign your router a static lan ip address. the router's ip address must be compatible with your existing network. you can not have two dhcp servers running on one lan at the same time.
6. click the apply button, and then click the continue button.
7. reset the power on the cable or dsl modem, then restart the computer so the computer can obtain the new router information.
