to optimize dpsvelocity to work with your dpsreality hardware, with all its real time capabilities enabled, you must have your dpsreality card with its dedicated scsi drive fully installed before installing dpsvelocity software. to use the optional dve daughtercard you must have it fully installed (hardware, drivers and software) before dpsvelocity can access the real time dve effects. see the dpsreality user's guide for details on how to install this hardware.

    dpsvelocity 8.0 requires windows 2000 or windows xp. you need a cd rom drive to install the software. when fully installed, dpsvelocity software needs 185 mb of hard drive space. when you are capturing video with audio, you also need to have space available on a system drive to store the audio files. the files that contain the video image data are stored on the dedicated dpsreality scsi drive.

    to download drivers and software updates from the dps website at www.dps.com, you need a modem or other internet connection, or a way to transfer large files from an online system to your dpsvelocity system.

    ultimately, the type of work you are planning to do determines the system required. for example, if your planned output is full screen using a low compression rate, a system with over 256 mb of ram will be desirable. if you are planning to make movies with many layers of complex special effects, increased cpu speed will be desirable.
