click on the audio settings button to open the vu record meter options window.

    media drive optimization

one of the reasons the vtfs works so efficiently is because it always stores an entire clip as one uninterrupted segment. this means when you plan to create a large segment (render your project into a single dps file, or capture a large video clip) you should first ensure that there is a space big enough for it on the hard drive. this information is available in the form of the unchecked capture limit field in the dpsvelocity capture screen. if your drive needs defragmenting, go to start ] settings ] control panel and select dps hardware. click on the optimize volume tab. the optimization tools are documented in the dpsreality user's guide.

input - you must choose which type of audio input you will be recording. if you do not have a digital i/o board installed, you can choose balanced or unbalanced audio, cd or aux. if you have installed the optional digital i/o card you may also have aes, sdi, s/pdif, dv (auto) and dv (manual).

there are two dv options. dv auto detects and records at the native dv sample rate and frequency. dv manual lets you set the sample rate yourself.

if you have the optional digital i/o board with an sdi option, there will be an advanced button next to the input drop-down box. click on this button to select audio channels and group to capture.

internal amplification - these sliders allow you to adjust the hardware pre-input gain. this is the amount of gain that can be applied to the analog input signal before it is converted to a digital audio signal. if you turn up these sliders, you will not hear the volume of the input signal increase, but you will see the audio level scale indicating a higher audio input level.

normally you will leave these sliders set to 0db. the volume does increase and is visible on the vu meters, but you will not be able to hear it until you place the clip on the timeline. when adjusting these controls, you must be careful not to cause audio clipping.

any adjustment made to dpsvelocity's vu meter slider will happen on top of this hardware adjustment.

default - when you click this button, the hardware sliders will be reset to 0 db (no gain). the vu meter will not be affected.

the other settings in this window are described in detail in chapter 4: user interface.
