Required Information for the Internet Firewall Wizard
you need the following information about ip addressing on your network. you may be able to obtain this information from the internet service provider (isp) that you use to connect your network to the internet. the following illustrates where this information is used.
1 ip address for your internet gateway
this is the address of your internet gateway which attaches the lan to the internet. it is the router or modem that sits between the internet firewall and the internet.
2 dns server address
this is the address of a domain name system server, and can be for a server either on the lan or internet.
this is required for downloading updates of the officeconnect web site filter, as well as for the name lookup tool. this address may be supplied by the isp.
3 wan ip address
this address should be in the same subnet as your router. it is the address that is used in communication over the internet.
the internet firewall has a default ip address of 192.168.1.254 (my.3com.com), which you use to access it when you set it up initially. during this initial set up, your pc must have an ip address in the same subnet as the internet firewall (192.168.1.200 for example).
the next step depends on whether you have decided to use the internet firewall as a dhcp server or to retain an existing dhcp server.
4 if you are using the internet firewall as a dhcp server you will now need to set all of the pcs on your network to obtain their ip address automatically.
5 if you are using an existing dhcp server then you will need to alter the default gateway address in your existing dhcp server configuration to the ip address of the internet firewall.
this brings you to the end of quick set-up using the internet firewall wizard.
