when upgrading the software, all settings may be reset to factory default. 3com recommends that you export the internet firewall’s settings before uploading new software and then import them again after the upgrade has been completed.
the internet firewall checks to see if new software is available for download on a weekly basis. if there is a new software release, an e-mail notification is sent to the address in the send log to box.
click tools and then select the upgrade tab. a window similar to that in figure 40 is displayed.

to be notified automatically when new firmware is available:
1 click the send email when new firmware is available check box
2 click update.
to load the new firmware:
1 click upload firmware now.

2 click yes if you have saved the settings.

3 click browse... and select the software file you have downloaded from the 3com ftp site to a local hard drive or server on the lan.
4 click upload to begin the upload.
make sure that your web browser supports http uploads.
when uploading the firmware to an internet firewall, it is important not to interrupt the web browser by closing the window, clicking a link, loading a new page, or removing the power to the internet firewall. if the internet firewall is interrupted this way, it may result in the internet firewall not responding to attempts to log in.
