1 user inactivity timer
this sets the maximum period of inactivity, in minutes, before a user is required to re-establish an authenticated session. this applies to remote access and bypass filters.
2 user list
the user list is a scrollable box which contains a list of all currently defined users. in addition, there is an entry at the top of the list labeled -new user-.
to add a new user:
1 highlight the -add new user- entry.
2 in the user name box, type the user’s login name.
3 in the password and confirm password boxes, enter the user’s password.
it is important to use a password that could not be guessed by someone else. avoid using names of friends, family, pets, places, and so on. good passwords can be created by:
1 making up nonsense words, such as dwizdell
2 using random letters and numbers, such as a7fe2j42
3 including non-alphanumeric ascii characters in words, such as so#n&c
passwords are case sensitive.
4 choose the privileges to be enabled for the user by selecting one or both check boxes.
two options are available:
4 remote access
unrestricted access to the lan from a remote location on the internet.
5 bypass filters
unrestricted access to the internet from the lan, bypassing web, news, java, and activex blocking.
5 click update user.
user names are not case sensitive; typing joe is equivalent to typing joe or joe. passwords are case sensitive; typing password is not the same as typing password).
to change a user’s password or privileges:
1 highlight the name in the scrollable box.
2 make the changes.
3 click update user.
to delete a user, highlight the name and click remove user.
