Features
the osprey-540 can provide to host applications audio and video from any of the following sources:

1 decompressed dv video and audio from ieee-1394 dv devices

2 digital video and audio from sdi (smpte-295m) sources

    3 video from s-video/composite sources

4 digital aes/ebu audio from digital audio sources

5 audio from balanced or unbalanced analog sources

the osprey-540 also offers the following features:

    1 video cropping

    2 video scaling

3 video color conversion or reformatting

    4 video software de-interlacing

    5 video logo/bitmap overlay

6 closed captioning for analog and sdi sources

7 hardware audio gain/attenuation for analog inputs

8 analog audio locked to selected video source

9 analog audio/video monitoring of selected video input source

    10 simulstream capable

the osprey-540 enables real-time streaming from a digital video (dv) source. the osprey-540 actually decodes dv video on the card, optionally scales and color converts the resultant digital video, and transfers the digital video directly to the host. the host cpu can then be used to encode the data for streaming. this is far superior to most ieee-1394 dv solutions that capture dv data to the host. in these systems, the host cpu must first decode, scale, possibly color convert, and reformat the data before it can encode it for streaming. decoding on the osprey card leaves the bulk of your cpu power for creating higher-quality video streams.

the osprey-540 also captures digital video and audio in the formats produced by professional-level camera and production equipment, including sdi video with embedded audio, and professional digital audio (aes/ebu). like analog and dv video sources, the osprey-540 can further scale, crop, etc the sdi video being captured in order to provide the video in the most optimal format for further host based processing.

bitmap overlays make it easy for users to superimpose images such as company logos over the video stream while video is being captured. mmx accelerated deinterlacing removes interlacing artifacts in interlaced video making the video easier and more efficient to encode and thus produces higher quality streaming video.

line-21 closed caption support is now provided for both analog and sdi inputs. closed caption data can be overlaid onto the video being captured as well as provided as a separate stream. as a separate but synchronized text stream, closed caption data streams can be streamed along with audio and video.

with the addition of locking the analog audio clocks to any of the video sources the osprey-540 provides new levels of synchronized/locked audio and video capture. mixing digital video and analog audio sources produces no drift between the time bases of the sources.

the selected audio and video input for capture is also redirected to the analog outputs on the osprey-540. these outputs include unbalanced audio and s-video and bnc style composite video.

digital simulstream is an added-cost software product available for the osprey-540. with simulstream any number of applications can access data being captured by a single board. a single board can feed multiple encoding applications even if each requires a different audio or video profile. please see the simulstreaming user’s guide which is installed in the osprey-540 program group for details about this feature.
