Install the Network Drivers
driver installation procedures are included for:
·windows 2000
·windows nt 4.0 servers/workstations
·novell netware 4.x or 5.x servers (see online user's guide)
·linux, solaris, and unixware (see online user's guide)
you can install drivers directly from the intel cd or you can also create a floppy disk to install from. see making a floppy disk later in this section.
windows* 2000
after you install the pro/1000 adapter in the computer, connect the cable, plug in the power cord and start the computer. windows displays the found new hardware dialog box and starts the found new hardware wizard.
using the wizard, follow this procedure to install the correct driver.
1 insert the pro/1000 adapter cd in the cd-rom drive. if the cd autorun program starts, close this window at this time.
2 on the wizard welcome screen, click next to start.
3 on the next screen choose the search option and click next.
4 click the cd-rom box only on the locate driver screen and click next.
5 after a few moments, the search results indicates a driver was found on the cd. click next to continue.
6 the necessary files are copied to your computer. the wizard displays a completed message. click finish.
7 restart your computer if prompted.
windows nt 4.0 servers
the ndis 4.0 driver, e1000nt4.sys, is a high-performance driver that sup ports windows nt 4.0 servers and workstations. this driver doesn't support windows 95, 98, nt 3.51 or earlier versions of nt.
prior to installing, review the service pack requirements in the sys tem requirements section. if you are also installing nt 4.0 at this time, you must first create a floppy disk for the driver installation. see making a floppy disk later in this section.
to install the driver:
1 apply service pack 5 or newer.
2 click the network icon in the control panel.
3 go to the adapters tab and click add.
4 don't select an intel adapter from the list. instead, click have disk.
5 insert the pro/1000 server adapter cd into your cd-rom drive.
6 type the path to your cd-rom drive in the dialog box and click ok. then follow the instructions to install the drivers. when the adapter is added, it appears in the network adapters list.
7 click ok and then close. when prompted, restart windows nt.
novell netware* 5.x
use the netware install program to install the pro/1000 adapter driver (driver name: ce1000.lan in the \nwserver folder). review the service pack requirements in the system requirements section.
prior to installing, either load dos or netware drivers for your server's cd-rom drive or create a floppy disk from the intel cd on a different computer. see making a floppy disk section.
1 from the netware console, type nwconfig and press enter.
2 from the configuration options screen, choose "driver options" and press enter.
3 choose "configure network drivers" and press enter. if any drivers are already loaded, a list of them appears.
4 choose "load an additional driver" and press enter. a list of drivers appears.
5 insert the intel cd or floppy disk you've created and choose "install an unlisted driver" by pressing insert.
6 if you're using a floppy disk, insert the disk in drive a and press enter. if you've mounted the cd as a netware volume, press f3 and enter pr01000:nwserver as the source path.
7 the driver name for the pro/1000 adapter is displayed (intel pro/1000 f or intel pro/1000 t). press enter to select it.
8 a prompt appears asking if you want to copy driver ce 1 ooo.lan. select yes and press enter.
9 the next screen asks for parameters for loading the driver. to modify any driver parameters or protocols, highlight "select/modify driver parameters and protocols" and press enter. the slot number is a required field and must be entered. if you have multiple adapters, enter the slot number for the adapter you are currently configuring. when finished configuring the driver, select "save parameters and load driver" to continue.
1、if your system contains a single pro/1000 server adapter, you may enter any number for the slot. the driver will automatically detect the correct slot number and load successfully.
2、if your system contains more than one pro/1000 server adapter, to find the valid slot numbers for your adapters, use alt-esc to switch to the console screen in netware. type load ce1000 and press [enter]. the driver will attempt to load and prompt you with the available slot numbers. note the slot numbers, and press esc to abort the driver load. use alt-esc to switch back to the install screen and enter the correct slot number.
10 to complete the driver installation process, go back to the configuration options screen by pressing the escape key until you see the configuration options screen.
11 choose exit to return to the server console prompt.
1、if the adapter cannot transmit or receive following the installation, you may need to modify the frame type or load and bind statements in the autoexec.ncf file.
2、if you are installing multiple pro/1000 adapters, repeat the driver installation process for each new adapter in the server.
making a floppy disk
to make a floppy disk of the drivers only for nt, netware or windows 2000, use the makedisk utility from a ms-dos/windows based pc.
1 place a formatted floppy disk in your floppy drive.
2 start the ms-dos window (go to start ] programs ] ms-dos prompt.
3 in the ms-dos window, switch to your cd drive letter, for example e:.
4 at the command line execute the following command:
makedisk a: os [enter]
where a: is your floppy drive letter and os is the desired operating system, as follows:
nw = netware nt = windows nt w2k = windows 2000
