Entering Commands
1 if autobaud is on, start any session by pressing the [enter] key three times in sequence. this will ensure identification of terminal data rate.
2 when fcd-2 uses a non-zero node address, it expects an address before responding to the terminal commands. no response will occur until the node number is received and acknowledged by the addressed fcd-2.
acknowledgment is indicated by the echoing of the node address part, i.e., n[sp]nnn[sp], where [s?] stands for space.
the address is in the range of 1 through 255 (0 indicates that the selective addressing function is disabled). the address is a prefix sent in the following format: n[sp]nnn[sp].
3 when password protection is on, the addressed fcd-2 waits for the password before continuing. after the correct password is received, fcd-2 sends the working prompt, ecd-2].
if password protection is off, this step is omitted and the working prompt appears after the node address conditions are fulfilled.
4 after the working prompt is displayed, every character typed on the terminal keyboard is immediately evaluated by fcd-2 and echoed to the terminal screen. full duplex communication with the terminal is therefore necessary, to provide on-line feedback to the terminal operator.
5 commands are not case-sensitive, that is, you can type commands in either lower case and/or upper case letters.
6 use space as a separator between command fields and/or parameters. fcd-2 however also accepts the comma as separator.
7 when parity is enabled and a parity error is detected in the character, fcd-2 will echo a question mark? to the terminal. the operator can then backspace immediately and correct the error before completing command entry.
8 command evaluation starts only when the [enter] key is pressed.
9 in case an error is detected during command evaluation, to command is not executed. instead, fcd-2 will send erroneous command back to the terminal screen, and you will see the bad command message in the next row. the correct command must be then sent again.
10 to correct typing errors, backspace by pressing the [backspace] key untilthe error is cleared, and then type again the correct command.
11 the command is executed only after it is validated.
12 command execution can be interrupted by pressing [break]. this will result in the display of the fcd-2 prompt, and a new command can be entered.
13 use the [break] key to stop the automatic repetition of commands (/r option).
14 if an idle disconnect time-out is specified, fcd-2 will automatically disconnect the ongoing session if no command is received from the terminal for the specified time-out interval.
